About the course

Learning outcomes
Attendees who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  1. recall the local Safety Code Act laws, pressure equipment safety regulations (PESR), and jurisdiction (ABSA) rules related codes and standards for new construction or in-service repair of ASME B31.3 piping;
  2. efficiently navigate the ASME B31.3 code;
  3. identify the major differences between ASME B31.3 and B31.1 fabrication rules;
  4. review listed ASTM specifications referenced in ASME B31.3  and related and material test reports (MTRs), including multiple marking, to ensure they are acceptable for the material ordered;
  5. investigate, analyze, interpret, articulate, and apply the welding fabrication rules of ASME B31.3 and apply them to when reviewing qualified welding procedure specifications (WPSs) to ensure they are suitable to weld on ASME B31.3 piping;
  6. identify and navigate the basic rules for ASME B31.3 inspection and examination rules; and
  7. recall the basic rules for ASME B31.3 leak testing rules, including closure welds.
Who should attend

Engineers, inspectors, maintenance and QA personnel, NDE technicians, experienced tradespeople, who work for owner-user companies, EPCs, inspection companies, fabricators, maintenance service and repair companies, and inspection companies from refineries, upgrader plants, oil sands plants, SAGD plants, petrochemical plants, power plants, gas/oil pipeline companies, pulp mills, repair and maintenance shops, equipment manufacturers, third party inspection and NDE companies, and all supporting industries.

Course features
  • Notebook with 750+ pages will be provided.
  • Over 60 Connecting-the-Codes Examples, including step-by-step instructions showing "how to" apply the code rules, along with the code "look-up tables" highlighted, underlined, and answer circled to clearly demonstrate the "how to" example.
  • Review of 24 ASME B31.3 Code Interpretations.
  • Workshop: review WPSs for ASME B31.3 fabrication.
  • Workshop: QC checks of ASTM specifications and MTRs: ASTM A105, A106 Gr. B, A333 Gr. 6, A312 Gr. 316/316L.
  • Workshop: QC check of MTRs with multiple markings.
  • Over 60 practice questions to measure knowledge gained
