Welding Examiner Candidates
This course includes evening tutorial sessions at no extra charge for Welding Examiner exam candidates for Papers #2 and #4. Evening tutorials are mandatory for exam candidates planning to challenge Alberta Welding Examiner Papers 2 and 4, and optional for all other attendees; about 1 hour on Days 1 and 2, and up to 3 hours on Day 3 that includes:
- Explanation of Alberta Welding Examiner Syllabus (AB-94) and its relation to a career path.
- Exam preparation for:
- structures of metals and mechanical properties;
- WPS, PQR, WQR, and WOQR reviews, including identifying errors and verifying the acceptability of the essential and nonessential variables; and
- take-home assignments and reviewed the following day.
Post-classroom practice exams (online) for Papers #2 and #4.
Welding Engineer Candidates
The following 2 CASTI courses and their CASTI exams (70% minimum pass mark) are approved to satisfy the CSA W47.1 Welding Engineer "knowledge requirements" in Clause 6.4.3.
- ASME Section IX - Welding Codes and Metallurgy + CASTI exam online with 50 multiple choice questions.
- Welding Fundamentals + CASTI exam online with 50 multiple choice questions.
Evening tutorial exam preparation study material and post-classroom ASME Section IX practice exam (online) is included in this course.
Certificate & Credits |
Earn 32 professional development hours (PDHs), through full attendance, documented on a Certificate of Completion issued at the end of the course. |

About the Instructor
Kimberley Meszaros, (P.Eng, MSc) is a professional engineer who practices materials engineering. Kimberley is a BSc (Materials Engineering) and MSc (Materials Engineering- Welded Composite Coatings for Oil Sands) graduate of the University of Alberta.
Kimberley has worked in the Alberta energy sector developing and troubleshooting welding procedures, conducting inspections, and consulting on various projects, and has worked in research and development for both private and government organizations.
Kimberley is an Engineering Design sessional instructor in the Chemical & Materials Engineering department at the University of Alberta. Kimberley works with the Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI) Inc. in Edmonton, developing training materials and instructing courses related to the codes and standards used in the Petroleum and Refining industries.
